Illegal Saugerties cannabis shop shuttered
November 28, 2025

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — A week after opening its doors in the heart of the village, an illegal pot shop was shuttered by the state Office of Cannabis Management.
Saugerities Convenience, located at 72 Partition St., was shut down following a raid on the business on Nov. 24. State investigators said they also seized all the illegal product.
In an email in response to a Freeman inquiry, Taylor Randi Lee, a spokeswoman for the Office of Cannabis Management, called the business an “illicit, unlicensed store.”
In addition to operating without a license, Lee said the business “was displaying and selling product that would be appealing to youth enticing them to purchase.”
In a press release announcing the action, Felicia A.B. Reid, the office’s acting executive director, said: “Selling cannabis to young people is despicable, irresponsible, and the truest meaning of careless.
“To the smoke shops selling illicit cannabis and flagrantly violating the laws that protect the health of our youngest New Yorkers, take notice: there will be certain and swift consequences,” she stated.
In October 2024, Smokies Pantry, an unlicensed recreational cannabis dispensary on U.S. Route 9W, was shut down by the state Office of Cannabis Management and the owner was charged with the illegal sale of cannabis.
According to the Office of Cannabis Management website, there are no legally operating cannabis dispensaries in the town or village of Saugerties.
Saugerties Village Mayor Bill Murphy could not be immediately reached for comment.
