Chandigarh: The city hosted its first ever Renewable Energy Job Fair at CII HQ, Sector 31, Saturday. It was organised by the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST), under the UT’s department of science and technology and renewable Energy, in collaboration with CII and Chandigarh Skill Development Mission (CSDM).Unlike previous job fairs, this event focused exclusively on RE, highlighting emerging opportunities in sustainable technologies.The fair attracted 145 participants from ITIs, polytechnics, and other institutes across Chandigarh, the tricity, and Punjab. It offered students exposure to diverse roles in the RE sector, broadening their understanding of green career prospects.Women candidates, including students from Government ITI (Women), also participated, adding diversity to the talent pool.Many shared that the fair opened their eyes to career possibilities in renewable energy— an area they had not considered earlier but now see as future-ready.Ten companies participated, offering roles such as technician, project engineer, sales executive, data entry operator, and other RE-aligned positions. Employers appreciated the dedicated platform for connecting with trained youth, noting this was their first experience at an RE-focused hiring event. Several firms shortlisted candidates, with interviews scheduled and some selections expected within a day. The initiative was widely praised for empowering students while addressing industry needs, setting a benchmark for workforce development in the renewable energy sector.
