SEATTLE — Amazon is giving U.S. Prime Video subscribers a big new benefit at no extra cost. The streaming service has added a special news section that shows live news channels right inside the app.

The news tab includes big networks like ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, CNN Headlines and NBC News NOW. Viewers can watch national, world and local news without leaving the app.

Amazon said the new news section will be free for all U.S. Prime Video customers by the end of the year. That means no additional subscription fees.

The news destination is easy to find. People can open the Prime Video app, go to the top menu, and tap the news tab to start watching.

Amazon wants viewers to stay inside its app for more kinds of shows and live events. Adding free news could help Prime Video compete with other streaming services.
