Stocks traded lower Tuesday as investors positioned themselves for the end of the year.
These stocks were moving Tuesday:
Meta Platforms rose 1.2% after the social-media company said it agreed to acquire artificial-intelligence start-up Manus, a Singapore-based company with Chinese founders. Meta is closing the deal at a valuation of more than $2 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Tesla fell 1% to $454.88. The electric-vehicle maker extended losses from the previous day when it fell 3.3% as investors gauged whether it deserves its valuation as the most expensive stock in the S&P 500.
Analysts at Baird recommended investors own Tesla shares into 2026. “We want to own TSLA into the new year and continue to view the company as a core holding for our coverage,” the analysts said in a research note Tuesday, citing catalysts such a broader robo-taxi rollout, and incremental details on Optimus commercialization. Baird maintained an Outperform rating on Tesla with a price target of $548.
Newmont rose 0.8%. The world’s largest gold miner was gaining in connection with a rise in prices for the precious metal, following a selloff the previous day. That wasn’t helping fellow miner Freeport-McMoRan, which was down 0.7%.
Hecla Mining—the biggest silver producer in the U.S.—gained 0.6%. The stock declined 5% on Monday after silver had its sharpest one-day selloff in nearly five years. The white metal was rebounding Tuesday.
Boeing gained 1.8%. The aerospace giant was awarded a contract for up to $8.58 billion from the U.S. Air Force to build fighter jets for the Israeli Air Force.
Trump Media & Technology Group declined 1.9%. The operator of the social media platform Truth Social launched its first five Truth Social exchange-traded funds on the New York Stock Exchange.
