Firefighters extinguish blaze at old Friendly’s location set to reopen as cannabis shop

The cause remains under investigation.

Bourne Police

Firefighters extinguished a blaze Wednesday night at a former Friendly’s location on Cape Cod that is set to reopen as a cannabis shop.

Bourne police said in a Facebook post around 6 p.m. Wednesday that police and fire were at the scene of a fire at the future location of Chief Cannabis, the formerly Friendly’s, at 10 Canal St., and urged motorists to avoid the area.

A short time later, they said the road had fully reopened, and their operations were coming to a close. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and extent of the damage was not immediately known.

According to the Bourne Enterprise, Chief Cannabis received approval from the town’s Planning Board last March to open a cannabis dispensary at the old Friendly’s location. The shop is expected to sell marijuana and “marijuana-related products,” like edibles and vape cartridges.
