CANTON, New York (WWNY) – Two residents of Canada face felony charges after a traffic stop by St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies.

The traffic stop took place Friday. The sheriff’s department released information about it Sunday night.

Deputies said in a press release that during a traffic stop on West Main Street in the Town of Canton, they found 88 pounds of cannabis.

Charged with 1st degree possession of cannabis were Kensen Lazare, 25, and Miraya Oakes, 29. Deputies listed Quebec as the address for Lazare and Ontario as the address for Oakes without listing any specific town or city.

Both people were arraigned in Lisbon town court and released without bail to reappear at a later date.

Although possession of small quantities of marijuana is legal in New York, it is still illegal to possess large amounts without the proper licensing.
