A Seattle pot shop owner is offering a $1,000 reward to find a woman who he believes stole $46 worth of weed, then ran over his employee while fleeing.
SEATTLE — A Seattle cannabis store owner is offering a $1,000 reward to help identify a woman who he believes stole from his shop, before hitting one of his employees with her car while getting away.
The terrifying moments were caught on camera Friday morning inside Shawn Kemp’s Cannabis in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood. Surveillance video shows a woman in a green Yankees hat grabbing a small bag of product, worth about $46, and walking out as an employee steps away.
That employee chased her outside, and nearby street cameras show him following the suspect as she jaywalks toward her car. He manages to snap a photo of her before the suspect’s vehicle lurches forward, striking him.
“My heart just sank because I literally thought my employee died,” said shop co-owner Tran Du.
Du told KING 5 the employee, a single father of two, was taken to the hospital with a broken ankle and a concussion. “Angels were looking over him that day,” Du said. “It could have been far worse.”
The suspect drove off, leaving behind only the security footage and the photo taken by the injured worker. Du said he’s stunned anyone would go to such extremes over such a small amount of product.
“There’s nothing worth running over anybody for,” Du said. “She’s so stupid. This was one of our lower-value items.”
Now, Du is offering a $1,000 cash reward to track down the driver.
“If you see this and you’ve got a conscience, turn yourself in,” he said. “We’re going to find you.”
Seattle police are investigating. Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is urged to contact SPD.
