According to Politico’s Zia Weise, the latest shock has pushed countries from Spain to Poland to call for a quicker shift away from imported oil and gas. That matters because Europe still pays a steep price when conflict hits major fuel routes. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the bloc had already spent an extra €6 billion on fossil fuel imports after the recent escalation.
