Top bowling ball maker investing $9M in Muskegon County, adding 90 new jobs

February 4, 2026

MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI — Wilbur Products, the company behind Motiv Bowling, is expanding with a nearly $9 million production facility in Roosevelt Park.

The expansion plan was announced Wednesday, Feb. 4, in a release from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s office.

Wilbur Products manufactures competitive bowling equipment. It made balls for Brunswick Bowling until Brunswick moved ball production to Mexico in 2006.

The company then rolled out Motiv Bowling, its own in-house professional bowling brand. Motiv has since gained a reputation as a top brand in the industry, posting 20% sales growth over the past several years.

As a result, the company plans to increase production and improve manufacturing efficiency by acquiring a new, 96,000-square-foot facility in Roosevelt Park.

“When our primary customer for bowling products left for Mexico in 2006, we enacted our belief that bowling ball manufacturing in America was still possible if a business was truly focused on excellence in innovation and cutting-edge manufacturing processes,” W. Scott Wilbur, president of Motiv Bowling, said in a statement.

The facility will be renovated and used for bowling ball manufacturing and exporting logistics. The expansion will also require a significant amount of new equipment to be purchased.

Motiv’s existing facility, located just two miles from the new production site, will be retained for research and development purposes.

The approximately $8.98 million project is expected to create 90 new jobs with starting wages of $24 per hour plus benefits.

The investment received support from the Michigan Strategic Fund in the form of a Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant of $540,000.

“All businesses face economic challenges, but they must make their priority to stand by their fellow Americans and preserve jobs,” Wilbur said. “Thankfully, we live in a state that has proven again that they are determined to do what it takes to keep Michigan as the technology and manufacturing center of the world.”

Motiv Bowling is currently headquartered in Spring Lake and has 43 employees in West Michigan.

“Motiv Bowling is exactly the kind of company that strengthens a community — homegrown, innovative, and deeply committed to its people,” Trevor Friedeberg, CEO of Greater Muskegon Economic Development, said in a statement. “Their continued investment in Roosevelt Park creates quality jobs and reinforces West Michigan’s reputation as a place where advanced manufacturing and entrepreneurship thrive.”

Motiv was the only manufacturer to make it to every Professional Bowlers Association show in the 2025 season. Competitors using Motiv equipment won over half of all PBA titles available over that time.
