The Lagos State Government has sealed the Ladipo Spare Parts Market in the Mushin area of the state over repeated environmental infractions.

The enforcement followed persistent cases of indiscriminate refuse disposal on the road median and highway, as well as illegal street trading within and around the market.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, noting that the action became inevitable after several warnings to traders were allegedly ignored.

Wahab said, “The Ladipo Spare Parts Market has been sealed due to the continued indiscriminate disposal of refuse on the median and highway, as well as illegal street trading along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway.”

The development comes amid a series of enforcement actions by the Lagos State Government against markets found to be violating environmental and sanitation regulations.

PUNCH Metro reported in July 2024 that officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps sealed the Oja Oba Market in the Ile Epo area of the state over poor sanitary conditions.

Similarly, in October 2024, PUNCH Metro reported that the Lagos State Government shut down Itedo Market in Lekki indefinitely over repeated environmental violations and illegal roadside trading.
