Natural Gas Puts Care for the Environment into Motion

April 14, 2026

On this Earth Day, we are taking the opportunity to highlight the many ways AGA and the natural gas industry are protecting the environment by managing one of the earth’s most important energy resources. Climate change is a defining challenge across the globe, and natural gas, natural gas utilities and the delivery infrastructure are essential to ensuring natural gas remains safe and reliable for everyone, including the place we all call home.

Every day, choosing natural gas is an easy step toward lowering your carbon footprint. With more than one new residential customer signing up for service every minute and approximately 60 businesses per day, choosing natural gas makes a meaningful difference to this planet. Every meal cooked, every heating system turned on during colder months, and every load of laundry done with natural gas contributes to reducing emissions.

In taking steps to protect the planet, AGA is proud to be a leader in taking meaningful action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Since 1990, the natural gas industry has reduced emissions by 70 percent. New technology and innovation will make sure that the natural gas industry runs cleaner, more efficient, and safer for those who rely on it every day.

When choosing natural gas, you can depend on reliability and safety. The natural gas industry takes multiple steps to help maintain safety for both customers and the environment. Natural gas travels through 2.8 million miles of underground, looped infrastructure, and pipelines are shielded from many major disruptive events, giving customers reliable natural gas in any situation. These protections ensure customers can rely on natural gas no matter the circumstance and give peace of mind knowing their choices are helping their environment and the nation’s energy goals.

If you are one of the 187 million Americans or own one of the 5.5 million businesses who uses natural gas every day, the Earth says thank you! And for those looking to make an impact on this Earth Day, you could be one of the many customers choosing natural gas today.
