Clean Energy Alliance announces super off-peak hours
April 19, 2026

The Clean Energy Alliance announced that it expanded super off-peak hours with the goal of giving customers more energy at lower rates throughout the day, according to a CEA news release.
“This expansion is a clear win for our customers,” CEA Chief Executive Officer Greg Wade said in a statement. “More low-cost hours during the day means more flexibility to shift energy use and lower bills, while also taking advantage of the clean solar energy our region generates.”
A majority of CEA customers are enrolled in a time-of-use pricing plan that varies electricity costs depending on the time of day, according to the CEA news release, with costs typically surging around from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
CEA currently serves residential and business customers in Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, Vista and San Marcos.
According to the news release, the midday super off-peak hours correspond with changes made by SDG&E, and the super off-peak period is “aligned with the times when the most renewable energy is available on the electric grid.”
“The lowest-cost tier is called super off-peak, and CEA is now expanding the range of these hours to offer more time to take advantage of lower rates,” according to the CEA news release. “Previously, the midday super off-peak window, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., was only available in March and April. Beginning April 1, those low-cost midday hours are available weekdays year-round, alongside the existing overnight super off-peak window from midnight to 6 a.m. on weekdays. The highest-cost period, on-peak hours, will remain from 4 to 9 p.m. daily.”
