California man pleads guilty in Danbury Bitcoin robbery, kidnapping case

June 1, 2026

DANBURY, Conn. (WFSB) – A California man admitted in federal court that he helped plan a violent kidnapping in Danbury tied to a massive Bitcoin theft.

Adam Iza, 25, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery. He faces up to 20 years in prison when he’s sentenced Aug. 12.

The case stems from an Aug. 25, 2024, incident when Danbury police arrested six Florida men for carjacking a Lamborghini Urus and kidnapping two people inside.

The victims were the parents of someone who had stolen hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin. Iza and others tried to get some of that cryptocurrency by targeting the parents.

One of Iza’s alleged co-conspirators got into a fight with the victims’ son at a Miami nightclub in July 2024. In the days before the kidnapping, that person stayed in touch with the kidnappers, gave them money and helped set up their travel and hotel rooms.

Iza used his cellphone and encrypted messaging apps to communicate with some of the kidnappers. He told them how to carry out the plan and also gave them money.

Iza has been in custody since Sept. 24, 2024, on separate federal charges in California.

The six other people charged in the carjacking and kidnapping have all pleaded guilty.

The FBI and Danbury police investigated the case.
