China Auto Chongqing Summit | BYD: EV Adoption Is Driving Growth in the Automotive Chip Ma
June 17, 2026
Gasgoo Munich- Ling Heping is vice president of BYD’s Automotive Engineering Research Institute. Speaking at the 2026 China Auto Chongqing Summit on June 12–13, he addressed attendees. He stated that electric vehicle adoption dictates the scale of automotive chips. It also defines application scenarios. As a major consumer of these components, BYD deploys many power and control chips. These are used across battery, motor, and control systems. Its vehicle business provides real-world scenarios for chip research. It also offers optimization pathways for development.

Ling detailed BYD’s flash charging system, which integrates over 1,500 power chips. It delivers more than 1.5 megawatts of charging power from a single connector. Even in temperatures as low as -30°C, the system enables fast charging. This effectively addresses the industry’s persistent challenge with charging in cold weather. He noted that flash technology drives growth in the automotive sector. It also boosts the upstream chip industry.
On the charging infrastructure front, BYD plans to build more than 6,000 flash charging stations this year. These sites will be open to all brands. They feature dynamic power output tailored to each vehicle. According to the company, BYD is fully advancing its “Flash Charge China” strategy. Having already constructed over 6,100 stations, it aims to reach 20,000 by the end of 2026.
Ling highlighted that integrating energy storage with flash charging stabilizes the grid during high-power charging. It also supports power-hungry devices and large AI models. Since incorporating storage into its charging systems, BYD has improved grid utilization rates. “The grid simply cannot handle such massive power loads on its own,” he explained. This technology creates ripple effects. It accelerates EV adoption and offers a solution for stable power supplies in chip manufacturing.
