Oracle is reportedly in talks with Meta for a multi-year cloud computing deal valued at approximately $20 billion. The potential agreement highlights Meta’s push to secure more computing power for training and deploying its artificial intelligence models.Citing a person familiar with the matter, news agency Reuters reported that Oracle will provide Meta with computing capacity to supplement the social media giant’s existing cloud computing providers. The potential deal with Meta follows a Wall Street Journal report from last week about OpenAI signing a contract to purchase $300 billion in computing power from Oracle over five years, which would be one of the largest cloud contracts ever signed.Oracle has been aggressively pursuing a strategy of securing major cloud deals with AI companies. The company has struck deals with Amazon, Google-parent Alphabet and Microsoft to let their cloud customers run Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) alongside native services.The company recently announced four multi-billion-dollar contracts, noting an industry-wide push by firms like OpenAI and xAI to secure the vast computing capacity needed to stay ahead in the AI race.Oracle also stated that it expects to sign several additional multi-billion-dollar customers in the coming months, with its OCI business projected to exceed half a trillion dollars in booked revenue.Oracle has also struck deals with Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft to allow their cloud customers to run OCI alongside native services, a strategy that has led to a more than sixteen-fold increase in revenue from these partnerships in the first quarter.Oracle’s strategy of allowing its cloud customers to run Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) alongside native services from tech giants like Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft has resulted in a significant surge in revenue. Meanwhile, this week Oracle’s founder, Larry Ellison, added $100 billion to his net worth in a single day. Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that the gain helped him surpass Tesla CEO Elon Musk to become the world’s richest person.
