May 26, 2025
ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KTTC) – The Albert Lea City Council is preparing for its final vote on making changes to its cannabis regulations at its meeting Tuesday evening.
The city is working to get a system in place as the state’s Office of Cannabis Management starts to issue licenses for cannabis retailers.
According to the city, the changes include rejecting applications for registration or seeking more info, denying or revoking registrations, and selecting business applicants to register.
City staff are proposing to register the businesses on a first-come, first-served basis based on the time stamp on the applicant’s license.
Applicants must also not have a history of being past due on things like property taxes or municipal utilities in the last 24 months.
The council previously set the limit of cannabis retailers at two.
The vote is scheduled to happen at the city council meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m.
