Amazon, AFL team up for new docuseries to introduce sport to new audiences

Amazon and the Australian Football League today officially unveiled plans for a new docuseries centering on the league, “pulling back the curtain on Aussie Rules” for audiences, according to Peter Rolfe of the Melbourne HERALD SUN. Camera crews will begin “filming behind the scenes footage and audio of teams and star players” from this weekend for a series the league and Amazon “hope introduces AFL to new international audiences.” The series — yet to be named — will “premiere on Prime Video in 240 countries and territories worldwide in 2026.” It will be produced by Emmy Award-winning U.K. sports production company Box to Box which “breathed new life into” F1 through Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” series and has “created content for golf, tennis and the Tour de France” (Melbourne HERALD SUN, 7/23). The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER’s Abid Rahman writes the new AFL docuseries “will follow the winning Box to Box formula of going behind the scenes, offering viewers unprecedented levels of access and capturing some of the seldom-seen drama.” The series “will build upon” Amazon’s existing AFL content, which includes three Amazon Original docuseries (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 7/23).
