Amazon and Delta Air Lines have formed a partnership to equip a portion of the airline’s fleet with satellite-based in-flight internet, according to a report from Yahoo Finance. The service will be powered by Amazon’s Project Kuiper satellite network and is planned to begin on 500 aircraft.

Strategic Implications for Amazon

This agreement represents a second major airline deal for Amazon’s satellite venture, following one with JetBlue. It provides a large-scale application for the company’s substantial investment in this infrastructure. The initiative is viewed as an extension of Amazon’s existing strategy in cloud services and connectivity rather than an entirely new business line. However, the company faces regulatory pressure to meet deployment deadlines set by the Federal Communications Commission, with a requirement for a portion of its satellite constellation to be operational by a specific date.
