Amazon announces $15 billion investment in data center campuses in Northern Indiana

November 24, 2025

(WNDU) – Amazon said it plans to invest $15 billion in northern Indiana to build new data center campuses.

The online shopping giant said the new data centers will be built to support artificial intelligence and cloud computing technologies.

The new investment comes in addition to the $11 billion data center that’s currently being built near New Carlisle. Multiple St. Joseph County officials have confirmed with WNDU and our reporting partners that these latest data centers won’t be located in St. Joseph County.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Tribune is reporting “sites for them have not yet been finalized, although AWS (Amazon Web Services) is in negotiations with multiple communities.”

The plans include a $1 billion deal with NIPSCO where Amazon will cover all of the costs to build out the 2.4 gigawatts of power the data centers will need.

“This is a massive win for Hoosier ratepayers. This agreement will ensure a surplus in new energy development that will deliver real savings to Hoosier ratepayers,” said Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said in Amazon’s news release. “Amazon’s historic investment shows that Indiana’s business-friendly climate continues to attract world-class employers and drive growth in our state. This project will create more than a thousand jobs while supporting thousands more across the region, further strengthening Indiana’s position in energy dominance and economic leadership.”

The delivery retailer said it will create 1,100 new high-skilled jobs and thousands more in the data center supply chain.

“This project will create good-paying jobs for Hoosiers, expand our tax base, and strengthen the economic foundation for communities across the state,” said U.S. Rep. Rudy Yakym, who represents Indiana’s 2nd District. “It also positions Indiana at the forefront of America’s next generation of innovation. As our country races to lead in artificial intelligence and advanced computing, investments like this ensure we are building that future here at home and delivering new opportunities for hardworking Hoosier families.”

Over the last 15 years, Amazon said it has invested more than $31 billion in Indiana. The company said it has contributed nearly $30 billion to the state’s gross domestic product and supported nearly 25,000 full and part-time jobs.
