Amazon Backed Anthropic Launches Healthcare Tools to Rival OpenAI

January 12, 2026

Amazon (AMZN, Financials) backed Anthropic is taking its AI ambitions into the healthcare world. The company unveiled Claude for Healthcare, a new suite of tools built to help doctors, insurers, and patients use AI safely and effectively in medical settings and it’s a clear challenge to OpenAI’s recently announced ChatGPT Health.

The new platform allows hospitals and insurance companies to use Claude for tasks like processing claims, checking coverage rules, and coordinating care. It connects directly with key medical databases including CMS Coverage, ICD-10, the National Provider Identifier Registry, and PubMed letting clinicians access data and research faster, without jumping between systems.

Patients can also link their health data from Apple Health, Function Health, or Android Health Connect to Claude for personalized insights before appointments. Anthropic says all health data will stay private, won’t be used for training the model, and will be protected under strict security rules.

The launch shows how quickly AI companies are racing into healthcare, an industry where data sensitivity and accuracy are paramount. For Anthropic, it’s another step in bringing Claude into real-world, high-stakes environments from chatbots to clinical tools.
