Amazon bringing $10 billion high-tech facility to North Carolina

RICHMOND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) – Hundreds of jobs are coming to North Carolina as part of Amazon’s $10 billion investment in a new high-tech facility.

The facility will be in Richmond County and will be used as a campus for high-tech cloud computing and artificial intelligence innovation.

The multibillion-dollar investment will create 500 “high-paying” jobs, according to a news release. Before the new tech campus even opens, Amazon said it already has 24,000 full and part-time employees in North Carolina.

“Artificial intelligence is changing the way we work and innovate, and I am pleased that North Carolina will stay at the forefront of all that’s ahead as we continue to attract top technology companies,” Gov. Josh Stein said. “Amazon’s investment is among the largest in state history and will bring hundreds of good-paying jobs and an economic boost to Richmond County.”

Earlier this year, Amazon opened a new facility in Kannapolis and announced plans for four others across the state.

The new Kannapolis facility was Amazon’s second in that city and created about 100 new jobs.

It is unclear when the new high-tech campus in Richmond County will open. Richmond County is about 90 minutes east of Charlotte and includes the city of Rockingham.
