Amazon FTC settlement: Prime members owed $1.5 billion, here’s how to claim your share
November 4, 2025

Some Amazon Prime customers who enrolled between 2019 and 2025 could be eligible for part of a settlement over claims that it was too easy to accidentally sign up for the service.
The online mega-retailer has agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement. Of that amount, $1 billion is being paid in fines and penalties to the government and the remaining $1.5 billion is going back to consumers in the form of settlement payments of up to $51.
The Federal Trade Commission estimates some 35 million Amazon customers could be eligible for a refund.
Amazon has denied the charges.
“We work incredibly hard to make it clear and simple for customers to both sign up or cancel their Prime membership, and to offer substantial value for our many millions of loyal Prime members around the world. We will continue to do so, and look forward to what we’ll deliver for Prime members in the coming years,” the company added.
There are three requirements to be eligible for the settlement:
- You’re an Amazon Prime customer who lives in the U.S.
- You signed up for a Prime membership through what’s called “challenged enrollment flows” between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2026, or you unsuccessfully tried to cancel your Amazon Prime membership during that time period. The challenged enrollment flows include Prime Video enrollment flow, Universal Prime Decision Page, Single Page Checkout or Shipping Option Select Page.
- You used fewer than three Prime benefits, such as watching a Prime video or listening to Amazon music, in any 12-month period after you enrolled.
Refunds for people in these categories are automatic and will go out by Dec. 25.
If you do not receive an automatic refund, a third-party administrator will send a claims form within 30 days of the first payment. You will have 180 days to complete and submit the claims form when you receive it.
Amazon will issue refunds within 30 days of approval of those payments.
