Buying a new phone is a serious financial commitment, and it only gets worse if you’re locking yourself into carrier plans just to get a discount. It’s because of this that I only ever buy unlocked phones whenever I finally get around to upgrading. And while it may be true that it’s nearly impossible to buy a new unlocked iPhone at a discount, deals on Android phones are practically a given every year.

I expected to see all of the latest models from the Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel lineups get their first big discounts during Black Friday, but Amazon has surprised me with some incredible deals for October Prime Day. The newest phones have dropped to the lowest prices I’ve seen so far.

All of the price cuts featured here are notable because they are on the latest generation phones for each brand. The Samsung Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra were released back in February, but this is the first time we’ve seen prices this low. We reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra earlier this year and called it an “incredibly versatile, elegant, and powerful phone” with our main concern being the epic price tag. Now that it’s dropped under $1,000, its an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a high-end Android phone. And you can also get the standard Galaxy S25 for half the price right now.

The other really good deal here is on the latest Google Pixel phones. Both the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro came out back in August and this is the only discount we’ve seen since then. We reviewed both the Pixel 10 and the Pixel 10 Pro when they were first released. We were less impressed with these phones compared to the previous generation Pixel models, but with this discount it’s still worth buying over the Pixel 9 series.

Finally, if you’re looking to grab a discount on one of the most expensive new phones available, there happens to be one. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has everything you could ever want in a foldable phone, and drops it to the lowest price we’ve ever seen for the unlocked version. It’s still expensive, but you get what you pay for there. In our review of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, we had mostly positive things to saying “It’s faster, easier to use, and no longer has a weird aspect ratio that makes everything look like it’s getting squeezed.”

Should you buy a phone now or wait for Black Friday?

If you need a new phone right now, I would say that these deals are good enough to justify buying now rather than waiting. Since these are some of the first big discounts on these phones we’ve seen all year, it’s definitely likely that the same prices (or better) will be around again during Black Friday in November. It usually goes without saying that Black Friday is the better time to shop for most things.

So if you don’t actually need to upgrade your phone in October, it’s definitely possible that you could save more down the line by waiting. But there’s certainly no guarantee that will be the case, especially as we’ve seen quite a few price increases in 2025 over the months.
