Amazon invested a record €60+ billion in Europe in 2025 and now supports over 1.5 million jobs across the region
June 4, 2026
Amazon is a long-term investor in Europe, supporting economic growth, innovation, and jobs across the region. Today, we support over 1.5 million jobs in Europe. This figure includes 230,000+ employees; an extended workforce of 400,000+ contractors, seasonal workers and other temporary positions; an estimated 500,000+ indirect jobs in areas such as construction, logistics and professional services, 185,000+ induced jobs in the European economy1; and an estimated 600,000+ jobs created by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) selling on Amazon in Europe.
European SMEs recorded record sales on Amazon in 2025, surpassing €60 billion for the first time. EU-based SMEs also achieved unprecedented success, recording more than €40 billion in sales, driven by increased cross-border trade within the EU and internationally.
“Europe plays an important role in Amazon’s global operations, and we see enormous potential for continued growth and innovation here,” said Mariangela Marseglia, Vice President, EU Stores. “Sustained private investment—from local and global companies alike—is a driving factor in European competitiveness. We are proud to play our part through our ongoing investments and commitment to the millions of European customers we serve.”
Investing in people and communities across Europe
Across Europe, Amazon’s investments in infrastructure, workforce, technology and services are supporting long-term economic resilience in communities. They’re also creating quality jobs and meaningful development opportunities for people.

“After years working abroad, I always knew I wanted to come back,” said Cynthia Peña, AWS Data Center Operations Cluster Manager in Zaragoza. “Zaragoza offers a quality of life that’s hard to find in other cities. When AWS arrived in Aragón, it was the perfect opportunity — I could return home without giving up a challenging, cutting-edge career. Every day I work with incredible professionals, on technology that’s shaping the future, at a company that’s genuinely committed to this region. I didn’t have to choose between my personal life and my professional ambitions. That’s what makes this special.”
Amazon recently announced a €33.7 billion investment in Spain—our largest-ever technology investment in the country—to expand data centre infrastructure and drive AI innovation across Europe. And in collaboration with Spain’s Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, we have committed to training half a million students in AI and digital skills by 2027 through programs like AWS Futuro IA, AWS re/Start, AWS Spain Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance, and Amazon Future Engineer.

“Turin is the city where Italy’s automotive industry was born, where the country’s first radio broadcast was transmitted, and where Italian cinema began—it has always been a place where innovation happens first,” said Daniele Amberti, Senior Manager, Research Science Alexa, who works at Amazon’s Research & Development Centre in Turin, Italy. “Working on AI here feels like the natural next chapter in that story. Amazon’s investment has brought world-class projects to the city and attracted incredible talent from across Italy, Europe, the MENA region and from the US as well. I’m solving problems today that didn’t even exist five years ago — in a city that has always been about building the future.”
Patryk Wierzbanowski is a Software Development Manager at the Amazon Development Centre in Gdańsk, Poland, which has played an important part in the development of our Alexa voice assistant. “What makes me really proud is knowing that people all over the world are using this product,” he says. “Amazon encourages innovation and scaling—so you’re always learning, and your work has a huge impact.”

Alexa+, Amazon’s next-generation assistant, recently debuted in France as part of its ongoing international rollout. Powered by generative AI, the smarter, more conversational Alexa can complete tasks from start to finish—and has been thoughtfully localised to grasp not just local languages, but peculiarities and humour too. It is now available in six European countries (the UK, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, and France) as well as the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
“Technology and infrastructure are important, but investments in people are critical,” said Robert Marhan, Vice President, People eXperience and Technology (PXT), as Amazon announced expansions to Career Choice, the company’s flagship upskilling program for employees.
“We are committed to giving our employees across Europe the tools, training and opportunities to build careers they’re proud of. When our people grow, communities grow with them.”
