Amazon is paying millions of customers: Are you one of them?(Adam Bass/MassLive.com)

Millions of U.S. Amazon Prime customers are eligible for a share of a $2.5 billion settlement after the Federal Trade Commission charged Amazon with misleading subscription practices.

The FTC claimed Amazon enrolled customers into Prime without clear consent and made canceling subscriptions unnecessarily difficult.

Under the finalized agreement, Amazon agreed to pay $1 billion in civil penalties and $1.5 billion in refunds to affected customers.

Amazon was also ordered to stop using deceptive sign-up and cancellation methods.

Who’s eligible

To qualify for a refund, customers must meet these four requirements:

  • Be a U.S. Amazon Prime member.
  • Have signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.
  • Have either enrolled through certain Amazon flows or attempted to cancel your subscription but did not complete the process.
  • Have used no more than three Prime benefits in any 12-month period for automatic refunds.

For details on their enrollment date, customers can check their account under ‘Memberships and Subscriptions’ and ‘Payment History.’

How much can I receive?

Refunds vary depending on subscription fees, but eligible customers can receive up to $51 per Prime account.

The exact payment depends on how much you paid and whether you already received automatic refunds.

How to file a claim

Some customers have already filed claims and automatically received a $51 refund within 90 days of filing.

However, Amazon has begun sending claim notices by email or mail to customers who have not received automatic refunds.

Once customers receive their notice, they can file a claim on the official settlement site.

They’ll have 180 days to submit a claim and Amazon will review it within 30 days of submission.

How will I receive my refund?

Once approved, payments will be issued via PayPal, Venmo or mailed check.

Customers can select their preferred payment method when filing claims on the settlement form.
