October 28, 2025
Amazon has launched Future Ready 2030, a global initiative backed by a $2.5 billion investment designed to prepare 50 million people for the changing world of work. The program aims to provide education and upskilling opportunities to employees, students, and communities worldwide, helping them build the skills required to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
The initiative builds on Amazon’s previous success in workforce development. Since introducing its first upskilling commitment in 2019, the company has already helped more than 700,000 employees gain new technical and professional skills—far exceeding its original goal of training 100,000 employees by 2025. This strong foundation set the stage for a broader effort to expand access to training programs that align with emerging global workforce needs.
Future Ready 2030 takes a comprehensive approach, connecting education directly to career outcomes across every stage of working life. For students, initiatives such as Amazon Future Engineer aim to introduce computer science and technology skills at the K-12 level, while AWS Educate and apprenticeship programs like Mechatronics and Robotics provide pathways into high-demand technical fields. These programs are designed to equip young learners with practical experience and credentials that can lead to better-paying jobs.
For professionals and existing Amazon employees, the company continues to expand training platforms such as AWS Skill Builder and Machine Learning University (MLU), which focus on cloud computing, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. These programs help participants strengthen their digital expertise and stay competitive as technology reshapes industries.
As part of the initiative, Amazon is also expanding its Career Choice program to include all salaried U.S. employees (Level 4 and above). This long-running education benefit—previously targeted at hourly staff—offers prepaid tuition for degrees and certifications in high-growth sectors. So far, the program has supported over 250,000 employees worldwide, with 100,000 participants in the past year alone.
The company intends to extend the benefits of Future Ready 2030 beyond its own workforce. By collaborating with educational institutions and local organizations, Amazon seeks to provide access to learning resources for people in diverse communities. The focus is on equipping individuals with the digital capabilities needed to adapt to rapid technological change, pursue new opportunities, and participate fully in the global economy.
Through this investment, Amazon positions itself as a leader in shaping a more inclusive and future-ready workforce. Future Ready 2030 reinforces the company’s belief that broad access to education and training is essential for sustainable growth, helping millions of people worldwide gain the skills necessary to succeed in the next generation of work.
