Amazon Must Provide ‘Just Walk Out’ Source Code in Privacy Suit

Amazon.com Inc. must hand over some of its Just Walk Out technology source code as part of a class action alleging the tech giant failed to satisfy Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act requirements before collecting customers’ biometric information.
Amazon denies that it collects biometric identifiers at its grocery stores, where JWO technology is deployed to charge customers without clerks or self-checkout machines. But the plaintiffs told the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois that the source code is central for resolving whether Amazon’s denials are correct.
