Amazon Prime settles for $2.5B: Here’s how to get your refund

September 29, 2025

Amazon settled with the Federal Trade Commission for $2.5 billion in fines with $1.5 billion going to Prime subscribers.

The settlement comes over claims that the company allegedly tricked consumers into signing up for Prime and making it hard to cancel their subscriptions.

The other $1 billion would go to the government in civil fines.

If you signed up for Amazon Prime or “unsuccessfully attempted to cancel” your Prime membership in the U.S. between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, you could qualify for receiving part of the settlement.

Here’s what you need to know about who is eligible for for the settlement and how to file a claim if you are eligible.

Which Prime customers are eligible for a refund?

According to Axios, you had to have signed up for Prime as a U.S. subscriber between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.

Subscribers who tried to cancel Prime during that same window but didn’t follow through also qualify.

Because the settlement was done through the FTC, current and former Prime subscribers outside the U.S. are not eligible.

To find out when you signed up for Prime, go to “memberships and subscriptions” and click on “payment history.”

How can Prime customers file a claim to get their refund?

These subscribers also qualify for the automatic payment if they haven’t used more than three Prime benefits in a 12-month period.

All other Amazon customers who signed up for Prime via the four pages noted above or were unable to cancel their memberships from 2019 to 2025 will be emailed a link to a settlement website to file a claim.

These customers must not have used more than 10 Prime benefits in a 12-month period.

While the form isn’t available yet, once the form is available, you have 180 days to send it to Amazon by e-mail, First Class postage pre-paid mail or via the settlement website.

The links to the settlement website, once available, will be found on Amazon’s website and the Amazon Prime page, according to the FTC.

Amazon will review the claims within 30 days to determine eligibility, and if eligible, you can receive a maximum of $51 per person.
