Amazon Prime Video’s Best New Show Has A Perfect 100% Critic Score
April 2, 2025
It’s hard to go wrong with Kevin Bacon, and as it stands, his new series launching on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday, April 3, is drawing perfect 100% scores from critics, albeit with not all that many reviews in.
The show is The Bondsman, and it sounds genuinely amazing:
“A murdered bounty hunter, is back from the dead after being resurrected by the Devil to trap and send back demons that have escaped from the prison of Hell; by chasing them down, Hub learns how his own sins got his soul condemned.”
Okay, what? With that title I figured it was going to be a John Grisham adaptation. But this is not based on any existing source material, no books, no comics, even if it sounds like it probably would be. Rather, this sounds like a cross between Constantine and Preacher, a supernatural action concept starring Kevin Bacon, of all people. I love Bacon but this is certainly an unexpected part for him.
The Bondsman released a trailer for the show a month ago, and with millions of views across multiple uploads, I think there will be a good amount of people tuning into this, especially now that Reacher has come and gone. Here it is:
I’m also getting a lot of Evil Dead vibes from this one. And not just because of the chainsaw. Okay kind of becaused of the chainsaw.
As I said, this has a 100% score right now, with critics mostly crediting Bacon for making the whole thing work, as expected. The rest of the cast is full of names you probably do not know. One actress stands out, Jennifer Nettles, who plays the deceased Aimee-Lee Gemstone in The Righteous Gemstones, entirely in periodic flashbacks. Now, she’ll have a larger part in a high profile series.
With good reviews, good viewership and what seems like it could be a lower cost than most other Prime offerings, this seems like it has the potential to run for more seasons than just this one, and if I was a betting man, I would say even before release here it will probably get a season 2, though that was not auto-greenlit or anything. It’s certainly something that’s going to catch a lot of interest. I believe more than one episode should air tomorrow as that’s what Amazon usually does with its onboarding. This seems like it’s going to be a winner.
