LAKE OSWEGO Ore. (KPTV) – A local independent movie theater in Lake Oswego says Amazon is upset at the way they marketed the new ‘Melania’ movie and has pulled their screenings.
As originally reported by local newspaper the Lake Oswego Review, the Lake Theater & Café posted on social media this week saying the “higher ups at Amazon” were upset about how they marketed the documentary focused on First Lady Melania Trump on their marquee board and the corporation cancelled future screenings of the Brett Ratner directed movie.
The Lake Theater & Café is known locally for crafting witty creative descriptions of movies on their marquee. The marquee for ‘Melania’ read: “Does Melania wear Prada? Find out Friday” and “To defeat your enemy, you must know them. Melania starts Friday,” quoting Sun Tzu’s ‘The Art of War.’

The theater wrote on Instagram this week, “Got a call that the higher ups (i.e., at Amazon) were upset with how our marquee marketed their movie (ie, Melania), that, per them, Sunday would be its last day here.”
The theater also added that they hoped Amazon wouldn’t cancel their Prime subscription.
In a post on the theater’s website, theater owner Jordan Perry wrote, that his instinct was that running of the movie at their “anti-establishment, occasionally trouble making” theater “would be funny.”
“I mean, it just seems so weird that it even exists (who wants a movie about Melania lol?),” added Perry.
The movie took in $7m over its opening weekend in the U.S. and opened at No. 3 according to U.S. box office charts.
Amazon has not released any statements regarding the incident. This story will be updated if one becomes available.
