Amazon does not have to compensate warehouse workers in New York City for time spent undergoing security screenings before and after work, a Brooklyn federal judge ruled.

The required security screenings and additional health screenings during the Covid pandemic weren’t an integral part of the employees’ principal work activities and therefore aren’t compensable under federal and state labor law for minimum wage or overtime pay, Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall of the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York said Tuesday in her order dismissing the complaint.
