The market currently appears to value the company more for its developments in artificial intelligence than for its retail e-commerce advances, even though e-commerce remains its largest business segment. Amazon holds nearly 40% of the U.S. e-commerce market without significant competition at present, though other retailers are expanding their own digital sales operations.

Walmart

Walmart is now the world’s second-largest retailer behind Amazon. The market favors the company for its consistent growth and expanding digital operations. It maintains the largest physical store footprint in the United States. E-commerce has been a significant growth driver, with sales rising 24% year-over-year in the fiscal fourth quarter ending in late January 2026. U.S. e-commerce sales increased 27% in that period. Its membership program, Walmart+, is growing rapidly, with membership income up 15% year-over-year in the fourth quarter. The company’s extensive store network supports fast delivery services, which saw a 60% year-over-year increase.

Costco

Costco shares regained positive market sentiment after reporting strong results for its fiscal second quarter ending in mid-February 2026. Sales grew 9.1% year-over-year, while comparable sales increased 7.4%. E-commerce has been a major growth area for Costco, which refers to this segment as digitally enabled sales. These sales rose nearly 23% year-over-year in the quarter. App visits increased 63%, site traffic rose 35%, and the average order value grew 15%.
