Yesterday, Huawei unveiled the MateBook Fold Ultimate, which is a laptop with a folding screen. When unfolded, you get 18″ of real estate, whereas when folded it has the same footprint as a 13″ laptop.

Today, Amazon is rumored to be working on a very similar device of its own. The information comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, a goldmine of supply chain information who usually focuses on Apple. Speaking of which, it’s not coincidental that he’s talking about this form factor, as Apple itself has been rumored to be working on a similar device too.

Apple’s laptop with a folding screen is now expected to enter mass production in late 2027 or 2028, but Amazon will be quicker it seems, with its interpretation projected to enter mass production in late 2026 or 2027.

There are no other details right now, but it will be interesting to see what OS Amazon will go with – will it be Windows or Fire OS? Likewise for Apple – macOS or iPadOS? We’ve still got a long time to wait to see any of these products in person, so undoubtedly we’ll be hearing more about them over the coming months and years.
