Amazon is preparing to send settlement money to some Prime customers.

The e-commerce giant is paying a historic $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, over allegations that it “enrolled millions of consumers in Prime subscriptions without their consent, and knowingly made it difficult for consumers to cancel,” according to an announcement from the FTC.

As part of the $2.5 billion settlement, Amazon must pay a $1 billion civil penalty. The e-retailer must also provide $1.5 billion in refunds to some prime customers harmed by their “deceptive” practices and “cease unlawful enrollment and cancellation practices for Prime.”

Who qualifies for the settlement?

According to CNN, anyone who signed up for Amazon Prime or “unsuccessfully attempted to cancel” their Prime subscription in the United States between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, is eligible for a share of the settlement.

How much are the refunds?

CNN reports recipients will be paid up to $51.

Some customers will receive automatic refunds. When the clain site goes live, anyone who submits a valid claim to Amazon and is approved will also be paid up to $51.
