The e-commerce megastore Amazon is always full of surprises. While there is no shortage of deals happening at the retail juggernaut at any given time—sales that we work tirelessly to identify and clue you folks in on as quickly as possible—there’s also a not-so-well-known section Amazon doesn’t openly tout: Amazon Warehouse. And no, we’re not talking about brick-and-mortar Amazon fulfillment centers (although those certainly play a role); we’re talking about a semi-secret deals section on the website with heavily discounted used and returned products. If you don’t mind gently used products at significantly lower cost, you’ll want to stick around for a bit.
How Does Amazon Warehouse Work?
Have you ever opened a product you bought on Amazon and, for whatever reason, decided to return it? Well, Amazon doesn’t simply throw your returns in the trash and call it a day and instead puts them through a quality assurance check and re-lists them on its site, typically for a pretty steep discount.
The types of products vary in terms of condition—some are used to varying degrees, and some are simply open-box returns. Amazon utilizes a 20-point quality assurance test and describes its appearance, functional qualities, accessories, and packaging condition, ensuring you know exactly what type of product you’re getting:
Used – Like New: The product is fully functional and complete with all of its essential accessories. Packaging may have light damage, but the product is in close to brand-new condition, fully functional, and refurbished.
Used – Very Good: The item is also in great condition and fully functions, but it may have seen some light usage out of the package. It also could have some slight cosmetic imperfections. It could be repackaged and may be missing some non-essential items, which will be listed in the individual product listing.
Used – Good: The item was moderately used and shows a little bit of wear. The packaging may be damaged or the item is totally repackaged. Unlike the aforementioned options, some key accessories may be missing.
Used – Acceptable: The item will show noticeable wear but can still function properly. It also may have cosmetic damage and/or light wear and tear. It may be missing components or accessories that are essential to its function. The items missing will also be displayed under the product listing.
Used – As-is: The product will have extensive cosmetic damage and/or wear and tear. It can still perform its main functions, but it may be missing some valuable components and may or may not work properly unless those ancillary items are purchased separately. The full condition will be shown in the pictures in the listing.
We list the best deals on used, open-box, and refurbished items, from electronics to tools to smart tech. There are many name brands on that list as well, including products from DeWalt, TCL, Apple, Blackstone, and of course, Amazon itself. As you’ll soon find out, however, there are very limited quantities of some of these items, so make sure you act fast if you see a deal that seems too good to be true
