“Definitely proud of our presence in this amazing part of Massachusetts,” site leader Radhika Radhakrishnan said.
“Let’s give a round applause for Amazon,” Charlton town administrator Andrew Golas said. “I mean, this this wouldn’t be without them. And also, the governor, thank you very much for coming out today.”
From job creation to tax revenue, Golas spoke about the benefits of the town welcoming the facility which started construction in 2022 and began operations in November of 2024.
“The success of this project,” Golas said, “is a recognition of what this town has to offer strategic location, hardworking people, and a supportive community that values innovation and opportunity.”
While hundreds of robots, which were all made at Amazon sites in Massachusetts according to the company, operate 24/7, Radhakrishnan said it’s the local associates they’re proud of.
“We have hired more than 1,000 employees across our shifts, across our process into this building. And with the launch of this building, it has not just been the hourly jobs into, picking, packing and stowing, but also a lot of the specialized roles,” Radhakrishnan said. “Being the second robotic fulfillment center in Massachusetts just creates amazing opportunities.”
The new Charlton fulfillment center represents one of the company’s largest investments in Massachusetts and the facility is different from others because it houses, processes and ships orders all from one place.
“We are still in our growth phase. So, we are really, really looking forward to the amazing months which are ahead where we get to scale up,” Radhakrishnan said. “Cyber Monday, we were definitely at our infancy. So, the big deal for us is definitely going to be the upcoming holiday season.”
Amazon’s community partnership agreement with Charlton is slated for the next 20 years, so keep an eye out on those packages for the ‘ORH3’ label, indicating it came from the Charlton facility.
