Amazon’s Drones Can Now Deliver iPhones, AirTags, and AirPods
May 20, 2025
Amazon has announced that its Prime Air drone delivery service, which promises delivery in 60 minutes or less, has received FAA approval to expand its item selection. The service now includes the capability to deliver a wider range of electronics, notably including certain Apple products such asiPhones,AirTags, andAirPods.
This expansion means customers in eligible areas can now choose from over 60,000 items for drone delivery, provided the item is 5 pounds or less. The option appears at checkout on Amazon.com or within the Amazon Shopping app. Users can select a preferred delivery spot, like a driveway or yard, for their orders.
Amazon also pointed to a simpler ordering process. Its latest MK30 drone, for instance, can now accurately estimate arrival times, providing customers with a delivery window typically within five minutes. This updated system also means deliveries go straight to designated drop-off points without needing a physical QR code, a change from how the service worked before.
For safety, the drone descends to approximately 13 feet above the ground and verifies the delivery area is clear of obstacles such as pets, cars, or people before releasing the package. The drone is equipped with a perception system to detect and navigate around unexpected obstacles. Prime Air service availability is also dependent on weather conditions, with Amazon using a 75-minute forward-looking weather service to determine if drone deliveries are feasible.
Notably, Amazon has announced that it will be holding another Prime Day shopping event this July. We’ll have more details on that sale as it approaches. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for updates.
