Amazon’s New World MMO is the latest game to get delisted

January 15, 2026

New World: Aeternum will soon be part of the old world. Developer Amazon Game Studios announced in a blog post Thursday that the fantasy MMO has been removed from digital storefronts and will officially go offline on Jan. 31, 2027 (if the world is still around, of course).

New World‘s shutdown doesn’t come as a huge surprise. In October 2025, around the game’s fourth anniversary, Amazon said the game’s latest update would be its last, though noted there were no plans then to delist it.

“The recently launched Season 10 and Nighthaven update will serve as the final content release for New World on PC and consoles,” Amazon said at the time. “After four years of steady content updates and a major new console release, we’ve reached a point where it is no longer sustainable to continue supporting the game with new content updates.”

Anyone who currently owns New World will be able to play it until servers officially go offline in early 2027, but only have until July 20, 2026, to purchase in-game currency. (An Amazon FAQ says you cannot get refunds for in-game currency.) The current season, Nighthaven, will be extended until New World goes offline for good.

New World was initially planned for a 2020 release, but Amazon delayed it multiple times. Its eventual launch, in September 2021, proved enormously popular, with hundreds of thousands of players clamoring to get into the game, causing lengthy queues. Its popularity eventually led to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions in October 2024. (New World remains one of the most popular Windows PC games in history. According to SteamDB, it’s currently ranked 11th in terms of all-time peak players, with 913,000 concurrents, beating out games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel Rivals, and Hollow Knight: Silksong.)

“We want to thank the players for your dedication and passion,” Amazon said in its post announcing New World‘s closure. “We are grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum with you. Together we built something special. While we are saddened to say goodbye, we’re honored that we were able to share so much with the community.”
