Amazon’s Remake of 58-Year-Old Hitman Movie Unveils Star-Studded Cast
September 30, 2025
Amazon has just added another remake to its upcoming film slate. The full cast for Gareth Evans’ A Colt Is My Passport remake has just been unveiled following the end of principal photography in Wales, UK.
According to Deadline, with filming having quietly wrapped, Amazon and Orion Pictures have revealed who will be starring in Evans’ reimagining of Takashi Nomura’s 1967 Japanese yakuza thriller. Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, who currently stars in Evans’ acclaimed British action thriller series Gangs of London, has been cast in the lead role of Colt, a Vietnam veteran turned contract killer, who goes on the run after assassinating a gangland boss in 1978 Detroit. Chris Webb, who was part of the stunt team on Evans’ last two movies, Havoc (2025) and Apostle (2018), wrote the screenplay.
Outside Gangs of London, Dìrísù is best known for his roles in the television series Slow Horses, Black Rabbit, and Humans, as well as the films The Huntsman: Winter’s War, His House, and Mr. Malcolm’s List. Starring alongside Dìrísù in A Colt Is My Passport are Tim Roth (Captain America: Brave New World), Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Victor Alli (Bridgerton), Ewan Mitchell (The Last Kingdom), Burn Gorman (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), and Noah Taylor (Edge of Tomorrow).
“From the moment I first saw Takashi Nomura’s wildly influential A Colt Is My Passport, I fell in love with its bold fusion of genres,” said Evans in a statement. “Merging film noir and spaghetti western tropes together in an irresistible way I knew immediately I wanted to take on the challenge of making this my next feature. More a reimagining than a remake, Chris Webb’s remarkable, noir-drenched script has taken the original film’s core themes and built upon them gifting the story’s iconic characters more emotional weight while retaining its deep-rooted genre influences.”
The filmmaker continued, “The incredible cast led by Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Jack Reynor, Lucy Boynton, Victor Alli, Burn Gorman, and Tim Roth have been an absolute dream to work with. Their dedication towards realising the vision of the film has been nothing short of inspiring, making the last 12 weeks of production a deeply rewarding and reinvigorating experience. I am beyond grateful for the trust and faith Orion have shown in us and I am so excited to share this wildly ambitious film with audiences worldwide.”
Amazon has been on all over remakes and reimaginings of classic movies recently. Following the massive success of Doug Liman’s Road House on Prime Video last year, the studio has announced new takes on the 1987 neo-noir House of Games and the 1968 romantic heist The Thomas Crown Affair, as well as acquiring Chad Stahelski and Henry Cavill’s remake of the ’80s fantasy cult classic Highlander. Amazon MGM is also behind the new Masters of the Universe movie, the long-awaited sequel to Mel Brooks’ Star Wars spoof Spaceballs, and the next installment in the James Bond franchise, which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve.
