Amid Trump’s clean energy cuts, feds back big power line upgrades in Michigan

Trump administration officials have finalized a Biden-era financing deal that will bring upgraded power transmission lines to Michigan. But the status of $14 billion more in federal commitments to support projects by other Michigan utilities and cut costs for their customers remains hazy nine months after they were first announced.

The U.S. Department of Energy said on Oct. 16 it had closed a $1.6 billion loan guarantee with American Electric Power, AEP, to support rebuilding nearly 5,000 miles of high-voltage lines in five states, including Michigan.
