Luca Guadagnino has found his next movie after his DC Studios project Sgt. Rock was delayed, with Deadline reporting that he’s set to direct Artificial for Amazon MGM Studios.

According to Deadline’s report, Artificial will revolve around the period at the artificial intelligence company OpenAI in 2023 that saw CEO Sam Altman fired and rehired in a handful of days. The film is written by Simon Rich, who will produce the film alongside David Heyman, Jeffrey Clifford, and Jennifer Fox.

Artificial is set to star Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro, and Yura Borisov, the latter of whom broke out in Sean Baker’s 2024 Oscar-winning hit Anora.

The deals for the cast of the movie have not been finalized just yet. However, Deadline’s report notes that the trio of stars are currently in talks to star in the film. Although everyone is still in talks, the idea is for the movie to begin filming this year.

Deadline’s report notes that Guadagnino was getting ready to film Sgt. Rock later this year when the film was pushed back a year. After that film was delayed, Guadagnino quickly pivoted to something else, and apparently was mulling multiple options before landing on Artificial.
