Applications sought for Environmental Stewardship Award

The Office of Sustainability is accepting nominations for the annual Environmental Stewardship Award.

The Environmental Stewardship Award recognizes individuals, campus groups, or departments helping to advance Illinois State University’s sustainability mission. This includes research projects, educational initiatives, campus improvements, individual efforts, and innovative programs.

Projects will be evaluated based on the following criteria: 

  • Environmental and social impact on the University community.
  • Alignment with the current goals outlined within the ISU Sustainability Strategic Plan.
  • Educational opportunity and capacity.
  • Creativity and innovation.
  • Organization, cohesiveness, and stability of the project.

Recipients of the award will receive a $500 grant to support future environmental initiatives at ISU, as well as public recognition and a plaque presented at both the Founding Celebration and the annual Earth Day Breakfast.

You may nominate a colleague, a group, or yourself for this award. Past recipients of the award include the BN-CARE Team, the Redbird Village Planning Team, Dr. Noha Shawki, and Dr. Keith Pluymers.

Applications are due Friday, November 21, 2025.
