Arkansas Cannabis and Wellness Expo offers a friendly crash course this weekend
April 28, 2026
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — Medical marijuana has been legal in Arkansas since November 2016, but nearly 10 years in, plenty of people still have questions about how the industry works and what patients need to know. A weekend event in Little Rock is aiming to clear some of that up, and help more Arkansans get access along the way.
The Arkansas Cannabis and Wellness Expo is scheduled for May 1 and 2 at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock.
May 1 is set as Industry Day, when people in the cannabis industry will gather to talk about what’s new, what’s ahead and “how we can move the patient count in Arkansas,” producer of the event Elizabeth Michael said.
The public-facing patient day is Saturday, May 2, when doctors will be on site to see patients and provide medical marijuana card patient certifications. Organizers said they will also walk people through the state process. The expo floor is expected to include a range of participants, from small makers to cultivation facilities and dispensaries, giving attendees a chance to learn more about how cannabis products are made and what delivery methods might work best for them.
For people interested in getting a medical marijuana card, Elizabeth said attendees should bring their doctor certification if they already have one. If they don’t, doctors at the expo can certify patients on site. She said the state’s website lists qualifying conditions, and people with one of those conditions can be certified by a doctor.
Organizers described the event as different from some cannabis expos because it’s not only an expo floor with vendors, it’s also a patient drive intended to certify as many new patients in Arkansas as possible and expand access. Elizabeth said cannabis can be used in different ways, including topicals, and doesn’t necessarily have to be smoked or eaten.
Elizabeth also emphasized the importance of education as cannabis laws and policy continue to change, noting that cannabis was rescheduled from Schedule I to Schedule III, which she said opens the door to more medical testing and additional studies.
