An Aurora man is facing weapons and cannabis charges following a recent investigation, the Illinois State Police said on Wednesday.
On April 6, the Illinois State Police Kendall County Police Assistance Team executed a search warrant at the home of Estevon D. Vargas, 24, of Aurora, a news release from the state police said. Vargas had been identified by the task force, in conjunction with the Aurora Police Department, as a suspect following a cannabis investigation, officials said.
In the execution of the search warrant, officers recovered a firearm, around 2,000 grams of illegal cannabis and other cannabis products, Illinois State Police said in the release.
Vargas was taken into custody without incident, the news release said, and has been charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and other weapons- and cannabis-related offenses.
Vargas had no attorney listed on the 16th Judicial Circuit Court’s website as of Thursday morning.
He is currently being held at the Kane County jail, with a status hearing set for April 22, according to Kane County court records.
