According to Zdeněk Petzl, Managing Director of the Automotive Industry Association, hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly important on the European market. This trend is now also reflected in Czech production. The manufacture of hybrid vehicles rose by almost 46 per cent during the first five months of the year. A significant contribution came from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic, whose production now consists exclusively of hybrid models.

A total of 259,522 electrified passenger cars were produced between January and May. These included 105,257 battery-electric vehicles (BEV), 22,201 plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and 132,064 hybrid vehicles (HEV).

Electrified Models Gain Importance Across All Manufacturers

Škoda Auto once again accounted for the largest share of passenger car production in the Czech Republic. The company produced 431,960 vehicles at its plants, increasing output by 10.2 per cent. Around a quarter of all Škoda vehicles produced featured a rechargeable powertrain. In total, 93,580 battery-electric vehicles and 14,794 plug-in hybrids were manufactured. The most-produced models included the Kamiq, Fabia and Karoq.

Production at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic also developed positively. A total of 97,021 vehicles rolled off the production line in Kolín, representing a slight increase compared with the previous year. All vehicles produced there were hybrid models.

At Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech in Nošovice, 110,700 vehicles were produced during the first five months of the year. This was 10.1 per cent fewer than in the same period last year. However, almost half of production consisted of electrified models. In addition to 11,677 electric cars, the plant produced 7,407 plug-in hybrids and 35,043 hybrid vehicles.

Bus manufacturers also increased their production. A total of 2,406 buses were manufactured between January and May, an increase of 7.2 per cent.
