Avangrid Celebrates Father’s Day By Honoring Three Generations Of The Allen Family Working
June 16, 2025
In honor of Father’s Day Weekend, Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company and part of the Iberdrola Group, is celebrating a remarkable legacy within its Colorado operations—the story of the Allen family, whose three generations have contributed to the company’s projects over the past two decades. Their journey highlights a deep commitment to safety, service, and integrity, values that have shaped both their family and their professional lives at Avangrid.
The legacy begins with Larry C. Allen (1947–2010), a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in radar operations during the late 1960s. After his military service, Larry applied his passion for technology and responsibility to a new career in the energy sector. He joined Avangrid’s Colorado Green project in 2008 as a Lead/Senior Technician, where he quickly became known as a reliable teammate and a strong advocate for safety. His dedication left a lasting impression on the teams he worked with and set the foundation for the generations that followed.
Larry’s son, Chris Allen, was inspired by his father’s example and is now the supervisor at Avangrid’s San Luis Solar project. Chris brought with him a strong technical background shaped by his service in the U.S. Navy from 2000 to 2009, where he worked as an advanced electronics technician. At Avangrid, he not only carries forward his father’s focus on integrity and responsibility but also plays a key role in mentoring the next generation of energy professionals. As a mentor for graduates of Avangrid’s National Training Center, Chris emphasizes the same principles that guided his father: do the job right, take ownership, and prioritize team safety.
Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO, stated, “Father’s Day is our annual opportunity to honor and commemorate the guidance, support, and love that comes from fathers and father figures. Our teams do an incredible job of creating a welcoming and positive work environment and we are proud to provide opportunities for multiple generations at Avangrid. The story of the Allen Family is not only an inspiration, it represents the culture and proud legacy Avangrid’s employees work to build every day.”
Jason Sheaves, senior director of field operations at Avangrid, mentioned, “Larry was an outstanding team player who influenced the character of the entire team. He always led the charge to get things done while staying focused on keeping everyone safe. His sudden passing in 2010 was a staggering loss—we all miss him to this day.”
“Safety for the people you are around is the most important aspect of the job, any job in our company. Always look out for your colleagues in the field. Have integrity in everything you do,” said Avangrid Supervisor Chris Allen.
“They both instilled hard work and discipline in me from a young age, and I’m so proud to have learned from them,” remarked Nieschburg.
The Allen legacy now continues into a third generation through Chris’s son, Christjan J. Nieschburg, who works as a technician and environmental health & safety coordinator at the Colorado Green project, the same site where his grandfather once led with distinction. Christjan’s role ensures the continuation of the family’s values in both the technical and safety dimensions of the job. Outside of work, the Allen family shares a strong personal bond and enjoys spending time outdoors, engaging in activities like fishing, hunting, and exploring Colorado’s mountains. Their commitment to each other reflects the same dedication they bring to the workplace. The story of the Allens is more than a family history—it’s a testament to how values like integrity and service can be passed down and lived out across generations, helping to shape the culture of companies like Avangrid in lasting and meaningful ways.
