Axiom Partners has launched an oversubscribed $52 million inaugural venture capital fund to back early-stage companies building practical artificial intelligence applications to solve real-world challenges.

The San Francisco-based firm was founded by Sandhya Venkatachalam, a former partner at Khosla Ventures and Social Capital, and will focus on seed-stage investments in startups using AI to address what the firm describes as a global “capacity crunch.” The strategy centers on companies developing tools that expand access to high-quality expertise and services that historically have been limited by the availability of skilled professionals.

The firm said its approach targets sectors such as healthcare, education, financial advice, and technology, where AI can extend the reach of specialists and make expertise available on a global scale. Axiom Partners’ backers include eight institutional investors along with executives from major technology companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Nvidia, and AMD.

Venkatachalam brings experience as both an operator and investor across artificial intelligence, hardware, and software. During her investing career, she was among the earliest lead investors in Groq, a company that developed AI inference chips and recently completed a $20 billion licensing and talent acquisition deal with Nvidia. Earlier in her career, she held product leadership roles at Andiamo Systems and Skype, which were acquired by Cisco and Microsoft for a combined $10 billion.

The firm launches with a team that includes partners with experience at major AI companies, including Evan Morikawa, former head of engineering at OpenAI, and Kipp Bodnar, chief marketing officer of HubSpot. The partners aim to help founders navigate technical AI challenges while building customer-focused products and scaling early go-to-market strategies.

Axiom Partners said its investment thesis centers on enabling AI-driven systems that deliver expertise and services to billions of people worldwide by expanding the reach of professionals across industries.
