Amazon MGM Studios has officially ordered a second season for the hit Bosch universe spinoff series, Ballard. This comes as a second season 2 was pretty much a sure bet after the California Film Commission recently gave the show a $14.84 million tax credit, as we previously reported.

The series is based on Michael Connelly’s books that focus on LAPD Detective Renée Ballard, portrayed by Maggie Q, as she works the night shift at the Hollywood station, fighting to earn respect in the department one case at a time.

What Prime Video says about the upcoming second season of ‘Ballard’

Connelly, who serves as an executive producer, stated, “It’s a great privilege to have my characters brought to life on screen season after season, and it’s thanks to the fans continuing to tune in that we’re able to do so. I’m especially grateful to Maggie Q for embodying Renee so perfectly, honoring the character as we take her into the next stage of her journey.”

Courtney Taylor on ‘Ballard’ as her first significant drama role.

In a previous interview with Blavity’s Shadow and Act, Courtney Taylor opened up about starring in her first big role that isn’t centered around comedy.

“As much as comedy feels like home, I’m so happy that drama has found a way into my career and I’ve been able to really exercise that muscle and drama.”

“To be a part of Michael Connelly’s universe, in any way, is always super special,” she continued. “I’ve loved all of his work. [The] Lincoln Lawyer, and the Bosch series itself, was always, to me, very good. I was excited to be a part of this series because I think it was something that was so beautifully written. I mean, the books are so good, and now that I’m involved in this project, this woman-led cold case unit that is very adamant about finding justice and caring for people, I cannot imagine playing a better role. I’m so excited that they believed in me enough to take on this role, and that I had this wonderful team of people rallying behind me.”

Ballard Season 1 is currently streaming on Prime Video.
