‘Ballard’ Renewed for Season 2 as Prime Video Keeps ‘Bosch’-Verse Rolling
October 6, 2025
The Bosch universe will keep unfolding at Prime Video with a second season of Ballard.
The Amazon-owned streamer has picked up the series, which stars Maggie Q as the title character, LAPD Detective Renée Ballard. The renewal comes three months after Ballard premiered as a binge release in July.
“We are excited to share that the Bosch universe will continue to expand with a second season of Ballard for our global Prime Video customers,” said Lauren Lancaster, head of U.S. SVOD TV development and series — co-productions for Amazon MGM Studios. “The audience response to Ballard has been phenomenal, resonating with audiences worldwide thanks to its gripping storytelling and outstanding performances from Maggie Q and the entire cast. We can’t wait for fans to experience everything season two has in store.”
Like Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, Ballard is based on novels by Michael Connelly, who also executive produces. Maggie Q’s Renée Ballard leads the LAPD’s cold case unit while fighting for respect within the department. Season one also stars Courtney Taylor, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill and John Carroll Lynch.
“It’s a great privilege to have my characters brought to life on screen season after season, and it’s thanks to the fans continuing to tune in that we’re able to do so,” said Connelly in a statement. “I’m especially grateful to Maggie Q for embodying Renee so perfectly, honoring the character as we take her into the next stage of her journey.”
Ballard had a solid first season on Prime Video, spending five weeks after its premiere in Nielsen’s top 10 charts for original streaming series. It accumulated about 3.29 billion minutes of viewing over those five weeks.
“We’re so grateful to have the chance to continue Ballard’s story. It’s a pleasure to dive deeper into these characters and this world, and seeing audiences resonate with their stories is incredibly rewarding,” said co-showrunners and executive producers Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood. “We get to work with such a talented, dedicated team who bring this universe to life — and we’re thrilled to be able to continue doing just that.”
Connelly, Alaimo, and Sherwood executive produce the series with Henrik Bastin, Jasmine Russ and Trish Hofmann. Theresa Snider of Hieronymus Pictures is co-EP.
