The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) has published a report that says Meta’s latest ‘pay or consent’ model for its social media services still breaches the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), the GDPR and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (UCPD). Its ‘Users Still Stuck in the Mud’ report urges the European Commission and competent authorities to ensure that Meta swiftly complies with EU law and asks the Commission to impose periodic penalty payments, where appropriate, to bring an end such practice
